Zelma Dixon Obituary

Zelma D. Dixon age 101, of Macomb formerly of Colchester, passed away Friday, June 11, 2021, at the Elms Nursing Home in Macomb.  She was born November 9, 1919 in Schuyler County to Guy and Blanche Hillyer Bible.  Zelma was united in marriage November 23, 1943 in Gulfport Mississippi, to Charles Gilbert Dixon. He preceded her in death July 23, 2006.

 Surviving to mourn her passing are 2 daughters: Jan Smith, Quincy, Jo Dixon, Colchester, 5 grandchildren: Bert (Connie) Perry, Greg (Betsy) Perry, Justin (Tonya Sidwell ) Smith, Ryan Dixon, Brandon Smith, 5 step grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, numerous step great grandchildren, daughter in law: Murphy Dixon, Lawrence, Kansas, and 1 son in law: Jim Hurst, Valparaiso, Indiana.

 Zelma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 daughter: Pat Hurst and 1 son: Chuck Dixon, and 1 brother: Willis Bible.

 Zelma was a member of the Colchester United Methodist Church, Colchester Lions club, Colchester Business Association, she had served as the resident president at Lafayette Square, where she also was active in many activities including getting together with friends to play cards.  She had been a telephone operator right after she got out of high school.  After she married Gilbert they owned and operated the Junction Service and Cafe truck stop.  She also had cooked for the Delta Zeta Sorority, and later years helped her daughter Jan with Blandinsville Greenhouse.  Zelma and Gilbert were very active in the Colchester Community taking care of the food tent and the flea markets for the labor day celebration, She was also very active with Colchester’s Christmas on the Prairie and other events sponsored by the Business Association.  She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers and cooking. Being with her family brought her the greatest joy in her life.

 Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 17, 2021, at Jones Mortuary in Colchester with Rev. Jim Clayton.  Burial will follow the services at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Colchester.  Friends may view and sign the register book at the funeral home from 8:30 A.M. Wednesday.  Visitation with the family will be 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.  Memorials are to the Colchester United Methodist Church and Colchester Lions club.  Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.jonesmortuaryfh.com.
