William (Bill) C. Thompson, 77, of Colchester, IL, passed away Sunday, Feb. 7, at Prairie City Rehab and Health Care Center. He was born in 1944 in Cambridge, Ohio, to William and Mae (Boyd) Thompson. He married Holly Mekkelsen, who survives, in 1964. He is also survived by his three children, Melinda Thompson of Aurora, IL; Richard Thompson of Macomb, IL; and Laura Egler of Macomb, IL. He is survived by four grandchildren, Mabel and Lucy Thompson-Durham of St. Charles, IL and Henry and Owen Egler of Macomb, IL. Bill also had seven surviving siblings: Rebecca Marcella of Peterborough, NH; Barbara Eckelberry of Ellijay, GA; Betty Rose of Pleasant City, OH; John Thompson of North Augusta, SC; Jude Rice of Huntington Beach, CA; Robin Schomburg of Westerville, OH; and Patti St. John of Newark, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bill graduated from Ohio University-Zanesville with an associate's degree in nursing and from the University of Illinois-Chicago with a bachelor's degree in nursing. Bill held a variety of jobs throughout his life from teacher to factory worker to registered nurse. He valued hard work and kindness. Family, friends, and neighbors always knew they could count on Bill. He was a principled man and lived according to his strong values of right and wrong. Above all, he loved his wife, children, siblings, and grandchildren.
