Wendell L. Haines age 84 of Colchester, passed away Friday, November 5, 2021, at the Elms Nursing home in Macomb. He was born December 8, 1936 in Raritan, Illinois, to Walter and Irene Thrapp Haines. He was united in marriage to Sandra K. Oakman. She preceded him in death on June 14, 2005.
Surviving to mourn his passing are 1 son: Wendell (Bubby) Haines, Macomb, 3 daughters: Alice Green, Macomb, Amy (Dean) Stoddard, Macomb, Jennifer Worthington, Adair, 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren, 1 brother: Leonard Haines, 2 sisters: Evelyn Rockwell, Naomi Creasey and 55 nieces and nephews.
Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 1 son: Lowell Haines, 1 granddaughter: Chanda Gunnels, 6 brothers, Eugene Haines, Dean Haines, Herschel Haines, Donald Haines, Eldon Haines, Ronald Haines, 1 sister: Madlyn Williams,
Wendell served his country in the United States Army. He was a plumber that had worked with his brother and for Hollister Plumbing and Arnold Brothers. Wendell and his family owned and operated many restaurants in the Colchester area over the years along with a concession trailer. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, going out to eat on Sundays with his family, playing bingo and raising his award winning Tomato’s and working at Argyle Lake State park mowing. In his early years he raced motorcycles and cars. He loved the times his family got together for the annual fish fry. The time that Wendell spent with his family brought him his greatest joy.
Friends may view the family pictures and sign the register book from 8:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Thursday, November 11, 2021, at the Jones Mortuary. Cremation rites have been accorded.
