Velma G. (Gagg) Messmore

Velma G. Messmore age 93 of Macomb, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at her home.  She was born August 27, 1929, in Macomb, to Arthur and Elsie Dean Gagg.  Velma was united in marriage March 25, 1950, in Colchester, to Leroy Messmore.  He preceded her in death on June 17, 1990.  She was also preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother: Clair Gagg.

Surviving to mourn her passing are 4 daughters: Kathy (Randy) Ross, Springhill, Florida, Jane Messmore, Macomb, Joyce (Randy) Faxon, Colchester, Amy (George) Arnold, Galesburg, 3 grandchildren: Julie (Kenny) Harms, Vienna, Virginia, Zachary Faxon, Nashville, Tennessee, Alexia Arnold, Chicago, and 1 great grandson: Ethan Harms, Vienna, Virginia.

In her early years of marriage she helped Leroy care for the family farm.  After they moved to Macomb, she started working for Western Illinois University as a secretary until she turned 70.  She was a member of Argyle Bible Church, where she was active in many different roles of the church.  She enjoyed caring for her flowers.  Most of all Velma loved her family and was very active in her grandchildren’s activities.  She loved every moment that she got to spend with them.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester with Rev. Sam Kostreva.  Burial will follow the services at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Macomb.  Visitation with the family will be from 11:30A.M. to 1:00 P.M Wednesday at the funeral home.  Friends may view and sign the register book at the funeral home from 8:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home, or after 8:30 A.M. till the time of services on Wednesday.  Memorial is to YMCA of McDonough County Senior Meals.  Condolences and memories can be expressed to the family at jonesmortuaryfh.com.
