Steven Dee (Birdie) Burton, age 71 of Tennessee, Illinois, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023 at his home. He was born October 9, 1952, in Macomb to Keith "Boggie"and Bette (Hale) Burton. He was the oldest of six children. He attended schools in Colchester and was a 1970 graduate of Colchester High School.
Steve liked to ride motorcycles and was most proud of his 1st Harley, a 1973 panhead, and his last Harley, a 2003 100th Anniversary Edition. Steve enjoyed life on the farm where he was able to hunt deer and turkey. He enjoyed spending time with family and friend. He always loved his pets from his horse Sheymar, to his numerous dogs over the years, Saint, Satan, Prima, Slick, Scratcher, Duke and Jenny. His surviving pet "The Old Cat" is missing him.
Steve joined the Local Labor Union in 1975, following in his dad’s footsteps. He obtained his CDL and worked as a truck driver for various companies including, TMC, Crop Production, Kanes Trucking and Runner Farms.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Marsha Wayland and his brother in law: Joe Wayland.
Steve is survived by his brother: Stanley Burton, Daytona Beach, Florida, 3 sisters: Debbie (Larry) Summers, Blandinsville, Cynthia Burton, Daytona Beach, Florida, Penny (Larry) Rickard, Colchester, Nieces: Nikki (Luther Dickson) Burton, Jenna Rickard, Nephews: Joseph Rickard, Tyler Summers, Great Nieces: Braylyn Burton, Madelyn Summers, Great Nephews: Jaylen Burton and Garter Rickard.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester, with Rev. Larry Rickard. Visitation with the family will be held 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Saturday prior to the funeral. Friends may sign the register book at the funeral home after 8:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Friday, November 3, 2023. Burial will take place at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Colchester at a later date. Memorial is to Hancock County EMS.
