Samuel Cassel Obituary

Samuel E. Cassel age 70 of Colchester, Illinois, passed away at Sharon Elms in Peoria, Illinois, on Saturday, December 30, 2017. He was born July 12, 1947, in Quincy, Illinois, to Sam and Ellen Walton Cassel, both of his parents preceded him in death.
Surviving to mourn his passing are 1 Son: Tom (Jody) Cassel, Danvers, Illinois, 3 Grandchildren: Samantha Cassel, Jordan Cassel, Jacob Cassel, and 1 Sister: Evana Cassel, Colchester, Illinois.
Sam was a member of the Macomb V.F. W.. He served his country in the United States Army of which he was part of Vietnam Big Red 1, till 1968. During his time in the service he received 1 Bronze Star for heroism in ground combat, 2 Commendation metals one in 67 and 1 in 68, Combat medical badge, nation defense service metal, Vietnam service metal Vietnam campaign metal. After his time in the service he became a Union Laborer. Sam’s heart was always in the outdoors he loved hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, or anything else that meant he could spend time outside.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, January 8, 2018, at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester, with Rev. Lee Unger, burial and military rites will take place following services at Woodlawn Cemetery in Augusta, Illinois, by the Macomb V.F.W. and Macomb American Legion. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the funeral home. Friends may view and sign the register book at the funeral home after 9:00 A.M. on Sunday. Memorials are to the Macomb V.F.W. and Macomb American Legion funeral service military honor guard, or Hooah Hunt's for Heroes of McLean County.
