Raymond Potter Obituary

Raymond Lester Potter, Jr, 88, of Carthage, IL, joined his wife, Patricia, in Heaven on February 9, 2023.  He was given Last Rites, surrounded by his loving family, and died at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

Raymond was born June 3, 1934, in Keokuk, Iowa, to Raymond Lester Potter and Rosemary Pullens Potter.  Raymond was raised in Keokuk and graduated from St. Peters High School.  He married Patricia Lou McNally on June 22, 1954.  She preceded him in death in 2021.

Raymond was a kind and humorous man known for his funny stories and antics.  He worked in sales and real estate most of his life in the areas of Colchester, IL, and Lafayette, IN.  Raymond enjoyed foreign languages and spoke Spanish and German fluently.  He was an avid basketball player and participated in the 1999 Indiana Senior Games receiving gold medals in both the shoot-out and the three-point competitions. He had recently relocated to Carthage, IL, to be closer to family.  

Raymond is survived by three children who adored him.  Luanne (Jeffery) Linn, The Villages, FL; Raymond Lester Timothy III (Irma) Potter, Casa Grande, AZ; and Michael Todd (Tammy) Potter, Carthage, IL; five grandsons, Jeffery (Morgan) Linn, Hilliard, Ohio; Stephen (Sara) Linn, Rio Rancho, NM; Anthony (Damiana) Potter Vidal, Casa Grande, AZ; Raymond (TJ) Potter, Casa Grande, AZ; Lucas Todd Potter, Carthage, IL; and three great granddaughters.  Raymond is also survived by one brother, Patrick Potter, and one sister, Sheila Johnson.  

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shirley Carlton; brother, Richard Potter, and infant brother.

The family will have private services at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a preferred charity. Jones Mortuary in Colchester is handling arrangements. Condolences and memories can be expressed to the family at jonesmortuaryfh.com.
