Norma Jean Porter age 82 of Colchester, passed away Monday, January 1, 2024, at Bothwell Regional Health Care in Sedalia, Missouri. She was born June 21, 1941, in Macomb, Illinois to Warren and Ida Reed Frakes. Norma was united in marriage December 29, 1956 in Palmyra, Missouri to Ron Porter. He preceded her in death September 21, 2021.
Surviving to mourn her passing are 2 sons: R L (Deanna) Porter, Colchester, Tom (Sheri) Porter, Colchester, 2 daughters: Rhonda (David) Curtis, Medina, Tennessee, Diann (Tim) Steele, Sedalia, MO., 12 grandchildren: Desiree (Chris) Ford, Dylan (Kaitlyn Billingley) Porter, Robin (Sean) Eifert, Ryan (Lisa) Porter, Lane (Jon) Awwad, Harrison (Rachel) Reed, Mackenzie (Will) Rimes, Heather (Nick) Moon, Lee Brattain, Amanda Brattain, Raylynn (Adam) Lightfoot, Garrison Curtis, 14 great grandchildren, with one soon to join.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers: Ervin Frakes, George Frakes, Rex Frakes, 5 sisters: Ellen Davis, Martha Bly, Lolla Mae Elliott, Florence Shippy, and Helen Frakes.
Norma had worked at the Tennessee Cafe, Dennys Red Fox, Colchester Nursing Center, selling Avon, selling Real Estate, decorating wedding and birthday cakes. She was part owner of N & J Upholstery in Colchester from 1975 to 2003, then she owned and operated Norma Jeans from 2003 to 2020. Norma was a past member of the Colchester Professional Women’s Club, and the Sew Club. She enjoyed going to craft shows, camping, watching The World of Outlaws race, making her world famous noodles, baking, and visiting with family and friends. Norma never met a stranger, she made everyone feel welcome and did anything she could for others. Most of all Norma loved her family, and enjoyed every minute she spent with them.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, January 8, 2024, at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester, with Pastor Sean Eifert. Burial will follow the services at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Colchester. Visitation with the family will be 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the Jones Mortuary. Friends may view and sign the register book a the funeral home after 8:30 A.M. Sunday, then from 8:30 A.M. till the time of services on Monday. Memorial is to Sylvia Thompson Memory Care in Sedalia, Missouri.
