Mindy Ann Akers was born April 7th, 1997 to Sherry Whitford of Colchester and Lonnie Akers of Tennessee, in Peoria, Illinois. Mindy passed away on July 10th in Macomb, Illinois, at McDonough District Hospital.
She was a premie weighing in at 3 pounds and had to stay incubated in Peoria until she was big enough to come home. Mindy attended West Prairie schools and graduated West Prairie High school class of 2015.
After graduating Mindy worked at Hardees in Macomb, until they closed. Mindy later moved to Springfield, Illinois where she worked at Dunkin Donuts and later at Secret Santa’s Workshop. Later moving back to Macomb where she was employed by Wal-Mart for a time.
Mindy enjoyed music, volleyball, Argyle Lake, mushroom hunting, backroad driving, fishing, reading books, watching movies. Mindy also loved the time spent with all her family and friends. Anytime spent with friends and family was her happy times. She was especially close to her maternal grandparents Bob and Marilyn Whitford as well as her mother Sherry.
Surviving to morn her death are her mother: Sherry Whitford, Macomb, father: Lonnie Akers, Tennessee, Maternal grandparents: Bob and Marilyn Whitford, Macomb, paternal grandparents: Calvin (Dottie) Akers, Lake Panasoffee, Florida, Barbara J Zime, Downers Grove, Illinois, half sister: Amber Akers and family, half brothers: Cliff (Jennifer) Akers, and family, Eudora, Kansas, Doug (Heather) Akers, and family, Eudora, Kansas, maternal uncle: Brad (Brookelee) Whitford, Macomb, cousins: Sophie and Mackenzi Whitford, paternal uncle: Lance (Karen Akers, Gillsville, Georgia and cousin: Dustin, aunt: Londa Cunnigham, and cousins: Blair, Bryce, and Brooke, Mesa, Arizona. There are numerous aunts, uncles and cousins left behind to morn her passing. Too many to name but each and everyone are in our heart, mind and prayers.
Mindy was suffering from the loss of two very close friends this past spring, Jared Haffner and Kelly Frost which both are forever in her heart.
The families loss is great, gone way too soon, but she will live forever in our hearts. Nothing can take away our memories.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Friends may sign the register book at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester after 8:30 A.M. Friday, July 16, 2021. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. the family has asked that in lieu of flowers memorial donation be made to the family to help with expenses.
