Matthew Lee Mason

    Matthew Lee Mason age 50 of Colchester, formerly of Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away Monday, May 24, 2021, at the Elms Nursing home in Macomb.  He was born January 22, 1971 in Macomb, Illinois, to Bill and Marie Herren Mason.  Matthew was preceded in death by his mother: Marie Sicking, maternal grandparents: Arthur and Virginia Herren, paternal grandparents: William (Leroy) and Lura Mason, and 2 uncles: Larry and Dale Herren.

    Surviving to mourn his passing are his parents: Bill and Nancy Mason, Colchester, step father: Wayne Sicking, Lawton, Oklahoma, 2 sisters: Briana (Matt) Rexroat, Macomb, Tara (Ryan) Dorethy, Colchester, nieces and nephews: Avery, Quinn, Vinton Rexroat, Macomb, Braddock, Bryiah, Dorethy, Colchester, 2 uncles: Roger and Shirley Herren, Dave and Evelyn Mason, and 1 aunt: Jackie (Alleyne) Duane Leighty.

    Matthew had lived in Lawton, Oklahoma for over 40 years before moving back to Colchester.  While in Lawton he enjoyed playing video games with his friends, Scott and Kate Lester.  He enjoyed spending time on the farm with his mother Marie and stepdad Wayne in Lawton.  He loved to watch and cheer on the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears.  He liked to collect video games and swords and was an avid reader.  He graduated from Lawton High School in 1989 and from Cameron University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science degree.  He spent his final days in Colchester surrounded by his father, stepmom, sisters, nieces, nephews and brother in laws.

    Cremation rites have been accorded.  A Celebration of life reception will be held at a later date.  Jones Mortuary in Colchester is handling arrangements.  Memorial is to McDonough District Hospital Hospice and can be sent to the family or to Jones Mortuary, Box 352 Colchester, Illinois.  Online condolence may be expressed to the family at www.jonesmortuaryfh.com.
