Mary Jean “Jeannie” Hocker age 86, of Macomb, passed away on November 13, 2024, with her family at her side. She was born on October 13, 1938, in Gerlaw, Illinois to Duane and Rosaemma Noecker. Jeannie was married on September 1, 1957, to Robert “Bob” Hocker who survives. Also survives are her children: Debbie Ruebush of Macomb, Ann Resto (Ozzy) of Demopolis, AL, Will Hocker (Joyce) of Highland, IL, and adopted son Charles; grandchildren: Jessica (Seth) Lambert of Macomb, Victor (Kristen) Resto of Altus, OK, Elizabeth (Josh) Bancroft of St. Louis, MO, Rachel (Matt) Lawver of Macomb, William Don Hocker of Highland, IL, Melisa Resto of Columbus, GA, and Kate Hocker of Highland, IL; and great-grandchildren Addison and Rhett Lambert, Ezran and Rayla Resto, and Joey Lawver. Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws William “Bill” and Dorothy Hocker, brother Thomas Noecker, and son-in-law Dean Ruebush.
Jeannie was a graduate of Galesburg High School and attended the University of Illinois. Bob and Jeannie resided in the Macomb and Colchester area for the majority of their married life. After retirement they moved to Green Valley, AZ and then to Milton, FL. In 2013 they returned to Macomb.
Jeannie was a member of University Baptist church in Macomb, IL and her faith defined her true character. She loved the Bible and teaching Sunday School. Jeannie’s musical talent included playing the piano and her singing voice was exceptional. Her other interests included gardening, bird watching, sewing and crafts, but her favorite was reading. Everyone who knew Jeannie will remember her for her laughter and her fun personality.
The Hocker family will receive friends and family for visitation at 10:00 am with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at the University Baptist Church in Macomb. Burial will then be held at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Colchester. All services will be officiated by Rev. Rich Barnett. Jones Funeral Chapel in Colchester is handling arrangements. The family wishes to thank all who assisted Jeannie in her last days.
