Marlin B. Shields age 91 of Colchester, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at the Elms Nursing Home in Macomb. He was born October 16, 1930, in Lake Worth, Florida, to Roland and Ruth Gibbs Shields. Marlin was united in marriage November 18, 1950, in Arkansas, to Darlene Hightower.
Surviving to mourn his passing are his wife of 70 years, Darlene Shields, 1 son: David Shields, Tennessee, Illinois, 2 daughters: Sherry (Mike) Hoyt, Colchester, Joni (Joel) Theis, Colchester, 5 grandchildren: Jessica (Jeff) Branch, Kristin (Eric) Haines, Kaila (Glade) Mason, Nathan (Jillian) Theis, Holly (Bryan) Clauson, 10 great grandchildren: Macy Branch, Drew Branch, Andy Mason, Cody Mason, Lathan Haines, Jace Theis, Isabelle Theis, Abigail Clauson, Alyssa Clauson, Luke Clauson, 1 brother: Sam (Phyllis) Shields, Colchester.
Marlin was preceded in death by his parents, 1 grandson: Andrew Hoyt, 1 sister: Betty Guy, and 1 brother: Bill Shields.
Marlin served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He had worked at Hightower Candy Service, Iowa Ammunition plant, Lower Buick and he retired from N.T.N. Bower in Macomb. He enjoyed wood working, camping, traveling, spending winters in south Texas and helping out at CARE food pantry in Colchester. He was a lifetime member of the Colchester Macomb Masonic Lodge and had been a member of the Colchester Fire Department and the Gold Wing Club for many years.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 22, 2021, at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester with Rev. David Scott. Burial with military rites by the Macomb V.F.W. and Macomb American Legion will follow the services at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Macomb. Friends may view and sign the register book at the funeral home after 8:30 A.M. Thursday. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
