Larry Carson Obituary

    Larry L. Carson age 84 of Colchester, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.  He was born September 13, 1936, in Colchester to Ford L. and Frances Doran Carson.  He was married September 14, 1958, in Colchester to Jo Jones.

    Surviving to mourn his passing are his wife of 62 years Jo Carson, Colchester, 1 son: Steve Carson (Mary Vyhnanek) Colchester, 1 daughter: Julie (Dave) Bland, Colchester, 4 grandchildren: Tanner L. (Ashleigh) Carson, Rushville, Grant D. Bland (Bri Brown), La Harpe, Georgie S. Carson (Mitch Hea), Mt. Sterling, Tucker L. Bland (Cora Vyhnanek), Colchester, Grace S. Vyhnanek, Colchester. 2 brothers: Lanny (Margaret) Carson, Colchester, Mike (Pam) Carson, Colchester, 2 nephews: Chris Carson, Chicago, Michael (Crystal) Carson, Chicago, 2 nieces: Andrea (Bill) Tully, New York, Brandi Carson, Chicago, 4 great nephews, and his Goldens: Honey Bear, Sophie, and Sadie.

    Larry was preceded in death by his parents Ford and Frances Carson and 1 sister: Luan Carson.

    Larry was a member of the Colchester United Methodist Church.  He was a past member of the Colchester Lions Club of 59 years, serving as President 2 terms, Colchester Fire Department, where he served as the secretary for both the city fire department and rural fire department.  Past Treasurer of Tennessee, Colchester Road District and had served on the Colchester Township board. Colchester Business Mens Association and member of Colchester Area Business Association.  Served on the Bureau of Cultural Affairs at Western Illinois University for many years.  Received the Community Quality of Life Advisor Committee Award for his work on the Colchester Museum during the 2007 Colchester Labor Day Celebration.  Served many years as the Chairman of Entertainment for the Colchester Labor Day Celebration. He was a past board member of Colchester State Bank, where he served as the Chairman of the organization committee to start the bank. Chairman of 1976 McDonough County Sesquicentennial, Instrumental in forming and served on the park board for Friendway Park.  Lifetime member of Colchester Masonic Lodge, Quincy Consistory, Peoria Mohammed Shrine.  Member of Illinois Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association, graduated from Colchester High School 1954, and from Worsham College of Mortuary Science, 1959.  He had owned and operated Carson Western Auto in Colchester.  Helped his father in law George Jones at the funeral home until his passing in 1966, then became the owner of Jones Mortuary.  He was very proud and the number one fan of all his grandchildren, in all sporting and extra-curricular activities they were involved in. He loved his family. 

    Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 19, 2020, at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester with Rev. Jim Clayton, burial will follow the services at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Colchester.  Visitation with the family will be 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Sunday, October 18, 2020, at the Jones Mortuary.  Friends may view and sign the register book at the funeral home from 8:30 A.M. Sunday.  Memorial is to West Prairie Athletics.
