Julia J. Aten passed away Monday morning February 12, 2024 with her husband and sister by her side at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.
Julia was born October 26, 1958 to H. Eugene and Marjorie John, in Macomb, IL. She married the love of her life, Troy Aten, on November 7th,1992. He survives
She is also survived by her mother, Marjorie John, Macomb, IL, daughters Ashley Griffitts of St. Augustine, IL, Jessica Aten of Southgate, KY, Brittany Aten of Macomb, IL, and one son Hunter (Raven) Aten of Kaneohe, HI; Grandchildren Kylie, Lillyann, Braylon Griffitts, Kasen, Kory Meyer, Jace Miller, Aleena Chase; A sister Terri (Jim) Burnham of Macomb, IL and sister-in-law Lori John of Industry, IL.
She was preceded in death by her father H. Eugene John, and brother Gregory John.
Julia was a graduate of Western Illinois University with a degree in elementary education. She was a beloved and adored teacher at West Prairie South Elementary for 34 years. Julia taught 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grades during her career, and was a recipient of the Golden Apple Teacher Award.
Her passions were caring for her family, canning vegetables from the garden, and was noted by the family for her delicious cheesecakes. She loved to travel with family, especially to Hawaii. In her early life she loved biking trips, tennis, and following the Chicago Cubs.
Friends may sign the register book at the Jones Mortuary from 8:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Friday, and from 8:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Saturday. A visitation will be held at Jones Mortuary in Colchester, IL, on February 17, 2024 from 4PM-6PM.
