Obituary

Juanita Lucile Briggs age 106 of Macomb, formerly of Tennessee, went to be with her Lord, Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at The Elms Nursing Home in Macomb.  She was born March 4, 1916 in Hire Township, near Blandinsville, to Erwin and Anna Winters White.  She was united in marriage to Cecil Daugherty in 1938, he preceded her in death in 1975.  She then was united in marriage in Tennessee, IL, to Cleo Briggs, in 1979.  He preceded her in death February, 1993.

Surviving to mourn her passing is 1 daughter: Donna (Mike) Haefner, Macomb, along with several nieces and nephews.

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, Cecil Daugherty of 38 years and then Cleo Briggs of 14 years, 2 brothers and sister in laws: Cecil and Eleanor White and Wayne and Bette White and sister in law, Wilma Gloyd Pittenger.

Juanita was always athletic and after graduating from Colchester High School in 1933, she was a member of the Macomb Little Brown Jugs baseball team. During World War II she moved to Rockford, IL to work at a war plant.  Later she was a cafeteria worker for Colchester Schools.

 

Juanita was given a proclamation from Macomb Mayor Michael Inman on March 4, 2022 as the oldest living person in McDonough County.  She has stayed very active in her senior years, winning the Long Jump competition at the Senior Olympics at the age of 95, completing crossword puzzles and word games, telling jokes and until this past year presenting a monthly Trivia Program to the residents of Grand Prairie Assisted Living. She was a member of Faith Fellowship Church in Tennessee, IL, and Senior Citizens Bowling league.  She enjoyed birds, animals and all kinds of flowers and loved to go bowling.  She loved to cook and then share with her friends.  Juanita was a life-long St. Louis Cardinal fan and when she was 100 she got to throw out the first pitch in St. Louis for her beloved St. Louis Cardinals.  Juanita said “Life has been fun.”  Most of all Juanita loved her family dearly.

Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester, with Rev. David Scott.  Burial will follow the services at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Macomb.  Friends may view and sign the register book at the funeral home from 8:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 15, 2022.  Memorial is to the McDonough County Animal Shelter or Donor’s Choice. Condolences and memories can be expressed to the family at jonesmortuaryfh.com.
