John Robert Walley, 86 years old of Colchester, IL went home to be with the Lord on June 21, 2025. John was born January 1, 1939 to Lloyd and Maggie Walley.
On September 6, 1957, he married Norma Kay McKee at Bethel Baptist Church, where they would go on to become life-long church members. Together he and Norma had four children: Cheryl (Ron) Hutchins-Day, Colchester, IL; Barbara (David) Roskamp of Sutter, IL; Polly (Mark) Buddemeyer of Newburgh, IN and Thomas (Melissa) Walley of Fulton, MO. He was grandpa Walley to 8 grandchildren: Sarah (Scott) Kitch, Colchester, IL; Seth (Melissa) Sappington, Plymouth, IL; Claire (Shawn) Ewell, Newburgh, IN; McKenna (Jeff) Mason, Warsaw, IL; Trenton (Maria) Roskamp, Sutter, IL; Adam (Allie) Buddemeyer, Memphis, IN; Marah Walley, Fulton, MO and Kale Walley, Fulton, MO. John also had 8 great grandchildren: Donovan Nelson, Colchester, IL; Lyndee Sapppington, Hamilton, IL; Jonothan (Ava Kilburn) Nelson, Colchester, IL; Norma Jean Sappington, Plymouth, IL; Cody Sappington, Plymouth, IL; Fletcher Roskamp, Sutter, IL; Jaxon Mason, Warsaw, IL and Thatcher Roskamp, Warsaw, IL. He also had a great-great granddaughter Oaklynn Sappington, Plymouth, IL.
John was a retired plumber from Western Illinois University. In his younger days, John loved umpiring baseball games and operating the scoreboard at high school basketball and volleyball games. He was a very active member of Bethel Baptist Church. His hobbies included woodworking and stained glass.
Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Norma, daughter Barbara, son-in-laws David Roskamp and Mark Hutchins and grandson Scott Kitch.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Friends may sign the register book and view the pictures from 8:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Friday, June 27, 2025, at the Jones Funeral Chapel in Colchester. There will be a private burial at Bethel Cemetery, at later date. Memorial is to the donors choice. Condolences and memories can be expressed to the family at jonesmortuaryfh.com.
