John R. McMurl Sr.

John R McMurl Sr. age 84 of Colchester, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, in Rushville, Illinois.  He was born, December 29, 1939, in Beardstown, Illinois, to Roy W. and Mildred C. Trotter McMurl Sr.  John was united in marriage May 21, 1960, in Fredrick, Illinois, to Joan A. Stevenson.

Surviving is his wife of 63 years Joan McMurl, Colchester, 1 son: John R. (Wannetta) McMurl, Colchester, 4 daughters: Cynthia McMurl, Monmouth, Illinois, Debra McMurl, Macomb, Kathy McMurl, Colchester, Sarah (Jared) Metcalf, Colchester, 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 1 brother: Glen Albert (Darlene) McMurl, Raymore, MO.

John was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son: James McMurl, 2 grandchildren: Brian McMurl, Faith Hamann, 1 brother: Roy McMurl Jr. and 2 sisters: Patricia Landrith, Cleone Crow.

John was the pastor of the Colchester Faith Tabernacle of God Church for 30 years.  He loved spreading the word of the Lord.  John had a very loving heart and loved his church, and his family.  He had a wonderful sence of humor and loved to make his family and friends laugh.  He enjoyed the time he spent fishing, hunting, camping, or being the sidewalk superintendent at what ever project that was going on, and taking road trip adventures with his son in law, that John had nicknamed Road Dog Metcalf.  Most of all John loved the Lord.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at the Colchester Faith Tabernacle of God Church, with pastor Ben Moyers.  Burial will follow the services at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Colchester.  Visitation with the family will be from 12 noon to 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the church.  Friends may view and sign the register book at the Jones Mortuary from 8:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Monday.  Memorial is to the Colchester Faith Tabernacle of God Church.  Condolences and memories can be expressed to the family at jonesmortuaryfh.com.
