Joe A. Hoyt age 95 of Colchester, passed away at his home in Colchester with his family at his side, Saturday, January 16, 2021. He was born October 24, 1925, in Colchester, to Benjamin Frank and Beulah Stookey Hoyt. Joe was united in marriage June 3, 1945, in Colchester, to Marilyn F. Kipling. She preceded him in death October 14, 2014.
Surviving to mourn his passing are 1 son: Mike (Sherry) Hoyt, Colchester, 2 daughters: Cathy (Dennis) White, Westminster, Colorado, Diana (Larry) Hinton, Colchester, 5 grandchildren: Jennifer (Dr. Eric) Hanson, Jason (Jenifer) White, Carrie Booth, Kimberly (Aaron) Sistko, Jessica (Jeff) Branch, 10 great grandchildren: Ethan Hanson, Jane Hanson, Vivian White, Jake White, Hannah Hulett, Myles Hulett, Haiden Lee, Noah Sistko, Macy Branch, and Drew Branch.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 69 years, Marilyn Hoyt, 1 grandson: Andrew Hoyt, 1 brother: William Bill Hoyt, and 1 sister: Virginia Fentem.
Joe served his country in the United States Army, serving during World War II in Okinawa, following the dropping of the atomic bomb. He had driven a school bus for Colchester School District, worked at Western Illinois University as a stationary engineer for 23 years, and was a lifetime farmer in the Colchester area. After Joe’s retirement from farming he still helped his son Mike with the family farm. He enjoyed driving around the area and telling his family who owned which piece of farm ground, he also enjoyed watching the Price Is Right, visiting with friends, and playing cards (especially pitch). He enjoyed listening to old country music listening and watching the Grand Ole Opry, riding his Harley Davison Motorcycle and enjoyed seeing Mike on his very own Harley. He and Marilyn spent a lot of time going to friends homes or having friends over for the evening. Joe lived life to the fullest up to the last minute of his life. Of all the things that he did in his life the time he spent with his brother, sister, children, grandchildren brought him the greatest joy.
Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Colchester, with Rev. Jim Clayton. Friends may view and sign the register book at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester from 8:30 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 19, 2021. Memorial is to Colchester Fire Protection District.
