Darlene Shields age 88 of Colchester passed away with her family at her side, Sunday, May 22, 2022, at the Elms Nursing Home in Macomb. She was born December 8, 1933, in Rushville, Illinois, to Joesph E. and Zola I. Gallaher Hightower. Darlene was united in marriage November 18, 1950, in Arkansas to Marlin B. Shields, he preceded her in death on October 19, 2021.
Surviving to mourn her passing are, 1 son: David Shields, Tennessee, Illinois, 2 daughters: Sherry (Mike) Hoyt, Colchester, Joni (Joel) Theis, Colchester, 5 grandchildren: Jessica (Jeff) Branch, Kristin (Eric) Haines, Kaila (Glade) Mason, Nathan (Jillian) Theis, Holly (Bryan) Clauson, 10 great grandchildren: Macy Branch, Drew Branch, Andy Mason, Cody Mason, Lathan Haines, Jace Theis, Isabelle Theis, Abigail Clauson, Alyssa Clauson, Luke Clauson, 2 brothers; Wayne Hightower, Colchester, Donald (Sherry) Hightower, Prairie City, 2 sisters: Alice (Benny) Arvin, Adair, Marilyn Phelps, Colchester, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 70 years, Marlin Shields, 1 grandson: Andrew Hoyt,
Darlene had worked at the Colchester Sale Barn, Sargents Western Store, helping her mom and dad with Hightower Candy service, and baby set for many local families. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and making rugs, and cooking her special recipes for her family to enjoy. Darlene and Marlin were members of the Gold Wing Club and they both loved to take their family camping. After they both retired they wintered every year in south Texas. Most of all Darlene loved her family and enjoyed every moment she spent with them.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 27, 2022, at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester with Rev. Jim Clayton. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Macomb. Friends may view and sign the register book at the funeral home after 8:30 A.M. Thursday. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
