Gaylord L. Mason age 89 of Quincy, Illinois, formerly of Colchester, passed away Friday, August 25, 2023, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. He was born July 15, 1934 in Macomb, to Benjamin and Mary Kaiser Mason, they both preceded him in death. Gaylord was united in marriage October 31, 1953 in Macomb, to Especia Wayland.
Surviving to mourn his passing is his wife of 69 years, Especia Mason, Quincy, 1 son: Richard (Melinda) Mason, Colchester, 2 daughters: Pamela (Billy) Marshall, Perry Georgia, Susan Mahoney, Salem Oregon, 8 grandchildren: David, Erica, Brian, Brie, Patrick, Michael, Kendall, Kurtis, 19 great grandchildren , and 1 brother: James Mason, Macomb.
Gaylord served his country for 22 years in the United States Air Force, reaching the rank of Master Sargent. He was involved in the Korean War, Vietnam Conflict as a Bombardier Navigator Technician on a B 52. After retiring from the Air Force Gaylord was the personel manager for C.I.P.S. Gaylord loved history and was a member of the McDonough County Historical Association and past President of the Colchester Historical Association. He was very active in his families Genealogy, putting together 2 books of history of the family. He was a life member of the Macomb V.F.W. He helped put out flags every Memorial day till his health would not allow. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and reading especially history books and westerns.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 31, 2023, at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester with Chaplain Dave Hall. Burial with military rites by the Macomb V.F.W. and Macomb American Legion will be held following the services at Forest Lawn in Macomb. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Friends may view and sign the book at the funeral home from 8:30 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday. Memorial is to the Colchester Veterans Memorial.
