G.R. “Bud” Dorethy, age 86 of Colchester, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at his home in Colchester. He was born October 21, 1938, in Colchester, to Walter and Mildred Jarvis Dorethy. Bud married Ruth Harrell they divorced. He was then united in marriage to Jane Kipling in 1989.
Surviving to mourn his passing is his loving wife Jane, 6 sons: Kurt Dorethy, Jerseyville, IL, Walt (Becky) Dorethy, Colchester, Victor (Stacy) Dorethy, Ipava, Randy Kipling, Kentucky, Danny (Kym) Kipling, New Philadelphia, Jeff Kipling, New Philadelphia, 15 Grandchildren, 27 Great Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers: Delmar, Walter (Berni) and Carol Dorethy.
Bud was a member of the Macomb VFW and the NRA. He served in the Army and was stationed in Germany. He worked at Western Illinois University, first at the Office of Public Safety, where he excelled to the rank of Sergeant. He then transferred to the Physical Plant as the supervisor of the building craftsmen. Bud retired as a locksmith at WIU. He loved to train bird dogs, and horses. He enjoyed taking the horses on trail rides. He enjoyed hunting a variety of things with his boys, including quail, rabbits, and squirrels. Bud and Jane were avid mushroom hunters and they also took trips all over the country watching and identifying birds. Bud and Jane would go to Texas for the winters to spend time with the friends they had made. Most of all he cherished the life he lived and every second he spent with his wife, kids, grandkids, and great grandkids
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M, Monday, October 20, 2025, at Jones Funeral Chapel in Colchester with Rev. Jim Clayton, burial will follow the services at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Colchester, Military Services will be conducted by the Macomb V.F.W and the Macomb American Legion. Visitation with the family will be 4:00 to 6:00 P.M, Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Jones Funeral Chapel. Friends may view and sign the register book at the funeral home from 8:30 A.M to 6:00 P.M, Sunday, October 19, 2025. Memorial is to MDH Hospice.
