Elaine Pittenger Obituary

Elaine S. Pittenger age 88 of Tennessee, Illinois, passed away Monday, July 17, 2017, at Wesley Village Health Care, in Macomb, Illinois. She was born May 12, 1929 in Chaffee, North Dakota, to Walter H. and Luella Miller Sprunk. Elaine was united in marriage to John Louis Pittenger on August 23, 1959 in Chaffee, North Dakota, he preceded her in death on February 27, 2014.

Surviving to mourn her passing are 1 Sister In Law: Marlene Sprunk, Crystal, Minnesota, 1 Nephew: David S. (Mary) Sprunk, Pine City, Minn., 2 Nieces: Diane (Lee) Englund, Princeton, Minn., Joy (Nick) Bueltel, Golden Valley, Minn., 6 Great Nieces and Nephews, 5 Great Great Nieces and Nephews, 2 Aunts: Helene Sandvig, Fargo North Dakota, Eleanor White, Macomb, Il., a very special Cousin: Gerald and Mary Jane White, Colchester, Il., along with several Cousins.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 1 Brother: Kenneth Sprunk.
Elaine was born and raised in North Dakota, where she attended rural schools. She is a graduate of Leonard High School in North Dakota, Valley City State Teachers College in North Dakota and Carthage College, Kenosha, Wisconsin. Elaine had taught school in the Nauvoo Colusa School District, and the Colchester School District of which she taught 22 years. She had also been employed with the McDonough County Health Department, where she was given the Woman of the Year award. She was a past president of the Church Women United, United Methodist Women, Homemakers Extension, Colchester Teachers Club, McDonough County Retired Teachers, and Hills Grove United Methodist Church of which she had played the piano for over 50 years.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 21, 2017, at the Jones Mortuary with Rev. Jim Clayton. Burial will follow the services at St. Mary’s Cemetery in St Mary. Visitation with the family will be 1 hour prior to the services on Friday at the funeral home. Friends may view and sign the register book at the funeral home after 9:00 A.M. Thursday. Memorials are to Chaddock School, Quincy, Illinois or Cunningham Children’s Home, Urbana, Illinois. Condolences may be expressed to the family at jonesmortuaryfh.com
