Donald R. (Don) Logan age 85 of Blandinsville, formerly of Tennessee, Illinois, passed away Monday, August 21, 2023, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois. He was born March 1, 1938 in Tennessee to David and Gladys Bloom Logan. Don was united in marriage to Betty Lou (Mackey-Smith) February 1, 1958 at Carthage Methodist Church in Carthage by Rev. Ralph C. Gloce. She preceded him in death on March 21, 2019. He was also preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers: Wayne Logan, Robert Logan, 5 sisters: Viola St. John, Mildred Nelson, Martha Gray, Irene Stoneking, and Shirley Hickman.
Don was a caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He never knew a stranger, he could strike up a conversation with anyone like he’d known them for years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and could often be found out choring at the farm. His kids and grandkids often recount memories of picking asparagus or washing turnips, which he would often grow just to supply numerous bushels to a local church for their annual turnip dinner. Late in life, “choring” usually just meant tending to the cats, though he helped care for a variety of animals throughout his life. He wore many hats in his career, but may be most well known for his years of sales service with the quarry, traveling and building relationships all over the state. For at least fifteen years he supported the West Central Illinois Highway Commissioners Association. He was a die-hard Cardinals fan, kept a favorite beer stein in the freezer, and likely was never caught without his “kit.” You could always count on “Donnie” for a good laugh, he had quick wit and often shared some explicit one-liners, usually followed with “and that’s a Logan original!” He will be deeply missed by his family, his friends, and his community.
Surviving to mourn his passing are 3 daughters: Dawn Anne Logan, LaHarpe, Julie Logan Doscher, LaHarpe, Teresa (Hank) Chapman, Dumas, Mississippi, Deron Logan, Tennessee, 5 grandchildren: Brittany Doscher (Preston Rodgers), Cody (Samantha) Logan, Amber Woolam, Dustin Logan, Cooper Logan, and 4 great-grandchildren: Emmy Lou, Isabella, Ty, Anna. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
