David "Dave" E. Peterson

David E. “Dave” Peterson age 67 of Colchester, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2025, at OSF in Peoria, Illinois.  He was born March 4, 1958, in Moline, Illinois, to Robert and Cynthia Spears Peterson.  Dave was united in marriage, December 1, 1990, in Macomb to Denise Chandler.

Dave is survived by his wife of 35 years, Denise Peterson, Colchester, 1 son: Ethan (Ella) Peterson, Lawrence, Kansas, 1 daughter: Carri (Steven) Taylor, Springfield, Illinois, 3 grandchildren: Cora Taylor, Jaycee Taylor, Finn Taylor, 1 brother: Ed Peterson, Moline, Illinois, 1 sister in law: Bev Pence, Medora, Illinois, 3 nieces: Mandy Andrews, Cynthia (Robert) Castro, JeAnne (Adam) Hurley, 1 nephew: Robert (Lori) Pence, mother in law: Sandra Chandler, and many friends.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, sister in law: Penny Peterson, and father in law: Herschel Chandler.

Dave was employed by Illinois Department of Transportation.  He owned and operated Peterson Lawn Care in Colchester for 40 plus years, he was also a master gardener and he was an IHSA softball and baseball Umpire for many years.  He was a member of the Macomb Barbershop Chorus, Macomb Elks Club, Immanuel Lutheran Church in Macomb, past member of the Macomb Jaycees and the Macomb slow pitch softball league.  Dave was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed watching Nascar racing, and was a Civil War history buff.  Dave started his umpire career with little league softball and baseball in Colchester and enjoyed helping the kids with the sport.  He loved watching his son and daughter play ball and was one the their biggest fans.  Most of all Dave loved his family and friends and enjoyed every moment he spent with them.

Cremation rites have been accorded.  A day of calling will be from 8:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Thursday, May 8, 2025, at the Jones Funeral Chapel in Colchester.  A Celebration of Life Reception will be held at the Macomb Elks Club, June 21, 2025 from 2:00 P.M to 6:00 P.M .  Memorial is to the Colchester Summer Ball Program.
