Carlton Berndt

Carlton Berndt, age 78, of Cherry Valley, Illinois, passed away Monday, May 18, 2026, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rockford, IL. He was born March 30, 1948, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Clifford and Della Munger Berndt. Carlton was united in marriage December 23, 1978, in Colchester, to Melody Henness, she survives.

Surviving to mourn his passing is his wife, Melody Berndt, Cherry Valley, IL, a mother in law: Virgie Henness, Colchester, 2 sons: Joshua Berndt, Cherry Valley, IL, Jonathan Berndt, Machesney Park, IL, 1 daughter: Bethany Berndt, Cherry Valley, IL, 3 grandchildren: Christian Berndt, Jacqueline Berndt, Caleb Berndt, 2 sisters: Linda Sundermeyer, Marion, Iowa, Joyce (Mark) Wagner, brother in law: Mark Henness, Colchester, and a sister in law: Carol (David) Reedy, Naperville, IL,

Carlton was preceded in death by his parents, and his father in law, Bill Henness.

Carlton was an Electrician and a member of the IBEW. He went to Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, Iowa, which is where he met Melody.

He was an avid gun enthusiast, and he loved looking at and working with tools. He enjoyed watching old movies when he could, and had a very dry sense of humor, but could make anyone laugh. Carlton was very strong in his faith, and he loved to study and read the Bible. Most of all he loved his family.

A Graveside service will be held at Mt. Auburn Cemetery with Rev. Earl Beal, at 2:00 P.M, on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. Friends may sign the register book at Jones Mortuary from 8:30 A.M, to 6:00 P.M, Monday, May 25, 2026. Memorial is to The Family of Carlton Berndt.
