Betty Jeanne (Hall) Nelson

Betty Jeanne Nelson age 97 of Colchester, passed away Wednesday morning, August 3, 2022, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.  She was born in Colchester, on May 20, 1925, to Lloyd L. and Mary Ruth Phillips Hall.  Her mother passed away in 1928 when Betty was only 3.  Lloyd remarried Phyllis Ridge in 1931.  

    Betty married Leonard R. Nelson in 1949. They had one son Dennis D. Nelson.  Both Leonard and Dennis preceded her in death, along with 5 brothers: Duane, Junior, Franklin, Lloyd and Larry, also 2 sisters: Carolene and Margaret.

    Betty is survived by 3 sisters: Nancy (Bennie) Weaver of Augusta, Annette (Les) Morgan of Macomb, Phyllis (Richard) Nourie of Florida, 1 sister in law: Sharon Hall of Macomb, 3 grandaughters: Nadine Nelson, Colchester, Nannette (Troy) Davis, Florida, Sara Light of Florida, 9 great grandchildren: Aaron, Amber, Gabbreaune, Zarreah, Alexander, Grayson, Jude, Johnathan, Chelesa, 3 great great grandchildren: Colton and Payton, Faxon, along with many sister in laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

    Betty attended several country schools along with Macomb High School and Colchester High School.  She was last employed by W.I.R.C. for over 20 years as the clothing clerk.  She had worked at the Colchester Nursing Center and the Americana Nursing Home.  Betty was a member of the Fandon Christian Church, where she had served as a board member.  Betty loved everybody and was loved in returned.  She never forgot anybody’s birthday in the family.  She loved sending birthday cards along with receving them.  Everyone was special to Betty.

    Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday,  August 8, 2022, with Rev. Lee Unger, at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Colchester.  Visitation with the family will be 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday, August 7, 2022 at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester.  Friends may view and sign the register book at the funeral home after 8:30 A.M.
