Alma C Feathers of Colchester passed away Monday, July 1, 2024, at her home in Colchester, with her family at her side. She was born September 11, 1936, in Colchester, to Jesse W. and Inza B. Reno Wayland. Alma was united in marriage in Haughton, LA. to Charles Feathers, he preceded her in death on October 31, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
Alma attended Colchester high school and Georgetown University . She worked at the Air Force Base that Charles was stationed at for 9 years . After moving back to Colchester she taught religion classes at Raritan for 10 years. She also worked at Colchester Nursing home & the trailer plant until it closed. She also was a nanny for Craig Shegran family for 10 years . She cared for Ben, Carrie, Stephanie, Mike, and Andy who she loved very much. Alma did a lot of volunteer work for the Colchester Senior Center and Food bank for 5 years. She was president of the VFW Ladies AUX , and president of the Colchester historical society. Alma wrote poetry for the national library of poetry for 8 years. She also belonged to the Raritan Rosery Society.
Alma is survived by two daughters, Deanna (Richard) Stiltz of Jacksonville and Denise Feathers of Colchester; three grandchildren, Aaron Comrie ( Colchester ), Danielle (Jake) Evans ( Franklin), and Lee Stiltz ( Jacksonville). Five great grandchildren, Owen, Brant, Joselyn, Liam, and Julia, 3 brothers: Richard Wayland, Jesse (Carole) Wayland, Jack (Sherry) Wayland, and 3 sisters: Especia Mason, Darlyne (Charles) Ackers, Lyn Newberry.
Funeral services will be 12 noon Friday, July 5, 2024 at the Jones Mortuary, Colchester, burial will follow the services at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Colchester. Visitation with the family will be 1 hour prior to the services on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Alma Feathers Memorial Fund.
